SUBJECT: Wedding Dress (Ria)
LOCATION: Ft. Ethan Allen Studio (Colchester, VT) CAMERA: Canon Mark 1D IIN LENS: Canon 24-105mm F4 IS L series DATE: March 2008
In the first image, I took my inspiration from the old 1940s Hollywood Lighting techniques used by the greats such as George Hurrell. I had Ria sit on the gray seamless paper backdrop about 8 feet from the curve. I lit her using 2 Dynalite heads -- one overhead mounted on a boom with a snoot attached. I place the otherlight about 12 feet away from her to my left and about 9 feet up with a honeycomb grid spot directed at her dress (the main light being on the boom overhead). Exposure was 1/160th of a second at F10 (100 ISO).
In the second image, Ria was standing the white seamless paper about 10-12 feet from the curve to the floor. I placed large black 4x8 foot panels on either side of her just out of view so as to create some slight shadows on the edges and to prevent light spill from the background heads which were being fired at full power. The main light was a Dynalite 4040 head fired thru a medium soft box mounted behind me high up. I also used a another Dynalite 4040 head with a honeycomb grid spot as well to fill in any shadows caused by the other head being mounted high. The background lighting was provided by 2 heads fired at full power. Exposure was at 1/160th of a second at F11.
